Do you treat yourself to a massage often? I do not — I workout about 5x a week and rarely take a few days off, so I know my body would benefit from getting massages more often. My mom is very consistent with her massages and it really helps her neck problems and how she feels day to day. When Mood House reached out to me about coming in to try them out, I was an immediate YES. PLEASE. and THANK YOU!
Massages are a treat. They are something that help you relax, let go, and decompress…and when you don’t have a good one, your whole day can be ruined. Sometimes you have masseuses that are a bit chatty, some that are too hard to the touch or too light, and then there are the ones that are just truly amazing and make you feel high as a kite.
My massage was absolutely incredible at Mood. OH MY GOODNESS. First let’s talk about the concept behind this amazing place. Cristina Wilson opened Mood House in January 2021….right smack in the middle of the pandemic. What a perfect time right? We ALL needed a little touch, relaxation and a place to just get away from this world right now.
The concept came to Cristina in 2019 after working as a partner and president at Charlotte Agenda. She wanted to fulfill her longterm dream of owning a business that was the best place to work….she wanted something that empowered people to grow. She saw that there were high end spas, and then there were smaller boutique massage parlors that had massage therapists coming in and out. She wanted the “in between.” Mood House was born.

Cristina has created a mind and body experience where you can relax and recharge and go on about your day to be the best that you can be. Their main service is massages, but they also have an infrared sauna (more on that) and group meditation events that sound very cool. The meditation guided classes are 45 min with a short break in between. They do the classes in this beautiful room – don’t you want to sign up for the next one with me? It is October 28th and you can get your tickets here.

Now, back to the massages 😉 There are 4 “moods” to choose from and each comes with it’s own playlist–
- CALM: deep, de-stressing *a Mood House favorite.
2. CLEAR: sets an intention for focus and creativity. Great if you have a big project at work coming up.
3. ABUNDANT: a happiness boost. Embracing all of the joy and happiness you have.
4. AWAKE : invigorating and refreshing – you won’t fall asleep and feel tired the rest of the day – perfect for a Saturday morning.

I chose the ABUNDANT massage. IT. WAS. INCREDIBLE. My masseuse was Amanda, who I highly recommend. She opened our massage with some aromatherapy that smelled of roses and while I am inhaling and exhaling, told me “I am enough just the way I am and I have everything that I need.” Wow. That spoke to me. You know when you take a yoga class and you get the right teacher that day? They say something so simple, yet so profound for you on that particular day, and the class was just what you needed? That was this for me. I relaxed, I was grateful to be there, I was thankful for what I had, because you know what? Everything I have is all I need. Amanda proceeded to give me one of the best 80 minute massages that I have ever had and I just kept telling her over and over, thank you.
After my massage I went to the infrared sauna for 30 minutes. I had never done this before and again, was so grateful and excited to try it out!
I have been hearing about the benefits of infrared saunas for a while now. Infrared saunas don’t heat the air around you, they use the infrared lamps (that use electromagnetic radiation) to warm your body directly. The benefits of this are pain relief (great for people with rheumatoid arthritis), post exercise recovery, cardiovascular benefits (short term improvement in heart functioning), fatigue reduction, injury healing, weight loss, detoxification, and skin purification to name a few. I was in the sauna for around 30 minutes and broke a little bit of a sweat but it was very relaxing. I put my phone away and just enjoyed the moment.
After you are done, they have water and a cold towel waiting on you.

Mood House is located in the heart of Dilworth in a 4000 sq foot space. They have 7 massage rooms and are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am-8pm. There are two monthly memberships to choose from (1) The High Performer which is $85/month for one 50 minute massage, (reg $105) plus benefits and (2) The Next Level which is $115/month which is one 80 minute massage a month, (reg $135) plus benefits. When I tell you my massage was amazing, I am not lying!
