Ruxton Mercantile just opened in Charlotte over Memorial Day weekend and we are so happy to have them in the heart of Myers Park! Ruxton Mercantile is owned by two Charlotte moms who along with owning this beautiful store, have 6 kids between them and one is still practicing law! Women can do it all! Katherine Costello and Natalie Urig met when their oldest children were in preschool. They ran in the same crowd and became good friends, all while working full time jobs.
Katherine’s college friend, Kaitlin Gibson opened Ruxton Mercantile in Maryland while also practicing law and juggling 5 boys! Katherine loved her store and frequently bought things from RM online or when she went to visit. She thought to herself, if she can do it with 5 kids, I can do it too! One day when she and Natalie were on a walk during the pandemic, she asked Natalie if she would want to be her partner and boom, there you have it. Natalie had a background in sale marketing and they thought, why not give it a try?!
Katherine and Natalie signed a lease in March of 2021 and opened Memorial Day. The girls and their families did everything – put together the furniture, hung the letters, painted all the shelving, designed the checkout counter – it was an all day/all night project – When there is a will, there is a way! They wanted a store that was an enjoyable experience, was approachable for the price point, that employees looked forward to coming into work and it being a place where they would leave home and it be a calm environment that didn’t add more stress to their days.
Ruxton Mercantile is a lifestyle store – it has apothecary, home goods, they carry small brands that have great stories behind them, a clothing store and a place to pop in and buy something quickly. I had so much fun looking around and bought the prettiest hand towels as a hostess gift for a friend.
My good friend Melinda Edge started her own flower business, From ME to you Floral and on Fridays, she drops in these beautiful arrangements for you to pick up and take home to enjoy over the weekend, and they make great hostess gifts as well!
RM also carries some great clothing for women and men – I picked up a pair of Faherty joggers that I love!
