Last Sunday night was family night – Lawton was going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks at camp and we wanted to do something fun. A local company in Charlotte reached out to me and I was so glad to hear from them and learn about what they do! Gathered is owned by Leslie and Bruce Schlernitzauer, owners of Porcupine Provisions Catering. They wanted to support small local businesses, their friends and non profits, so they have put together a delivery service to help them! They have bunches with all local farmers and producers, they add a recipe, a board for your cheese, a little gift that is always local and even a video on how to make some of the recipes in your bunch! We got the pizza bunch and ya’ll, it was yummy!
Okay. Confession. My kids have never made homemade pizzas with me. I KNOW I KNOW!! I AM TERRIBLE!!! We just dial Pappa Johns and bam it’s there. Needless to say, they were very excited and I was excited to have fresh ingredients. Another confession. They have never had Margherita Pizza!!! So, this was a recipe roulette for sure!!
The thing that I love about Gathered, is the support for local businesses, but also the fact that for every 10 bunches that are sold, they donate a meal to those in need through a different non-profit each month. Very cool and selfless. Gathered also does corporate gifts such as custom drink mixes, cheese boards, make your own flatbread kits and more! They put a spicy Margarita mix in ours and it was incredible!
The kids had so much fun and wea learned that you really need to STRETCH the dough out to get the best results! Like I said, they had never had this kind of pizza, so they did leave off the basil – which in my opinion is the best part. They LOVED them!!
It was such a fun thing to do together and here’s the thing- I didn’t have to shop for all of the ingredients!! SCORE!! We stayed later at the pool, came home and everything was ready for us to go ahead and make. Gathered is the perfect thing if you are busy and don’t want to handle dinner and want to order local and fresh.
