Last weekend I took a trip with some of best best friends to CIVANA, a wellness spa in Arizona. I have to say, I really don’t travel that often. With the kids being young and having to find help and the schedule…Lord the schedule I have to prepare for!!! It’s almost too much. Now that they boys are older, it is so much easier and I feel better about leaving. Last year for our 40th, all my college girls went to Kiawah for the weekend RIGHT before we went on lockdown. We have decided to make it a yearly tradition and go new places and whomever can come and come! I NEED these girls. I NEED the time away and honestly, I think all of my boys at home feel the same way. We all need a break every now and then!
Right when we arrived it was time for a drink and lunch before our Mindful Mixology class. This class was really cool – Civanna uses all natural sugars, nothing artificial. I am not a liquor drinker – AT ALL. NEVER. After this drink, I was hooked! I tried a few other cocktails they had there all weekend and loved every one. My favorite was the Hibiscus Margarita. This Thyme Well Spent was delicious too – you couldn’t taste the gin at all!

Our dinner was….interesting. Now remember, the time difference is 3 hours, so we were eating at 7:30, but it felt like 10:30 for us, and we were starving. The menu items were very healthy and yummy, but not enough to be honest. The crab cakes had “” around them and were really hearts of palm. With multiple drinks, we needed some substantial food! Mine was fine – I honestly can’t even remember we were laughing so hard at everything, it was all good 😉
The next morning, Mer and I had a Bodyweight class that was a lot of fun with a great teacher, John. The air is so nice there, you aren’t sweating, but you know you are getting a good workout.
That day we all had spa appointments and were able to spend the day at the pool by the spa and use their facilities. We ordered lunch and talked and had the best time! Thank God I always pack food – I had my trusty gummies and begged them to find me a diet coke – I was not about to go into withdrawl on vacation! haha!

Before our treatments we did an Aqua Therapy Circuit. This is where you go from the heat to the freezing cold, to the heat to the cold again. It has does many beneficial things for your body, but it is not comfortable. We could barely take the 20 seconds that you are supposed to be in the cold….the heat, I can stay in forever! It was fun to try it.
In the early evening we had a Sunset Sound Healing class. It was so neat and SO relaxing. The woman who led it was Native American and told us about some of her traditions and went around us playing the flute, some chimes and a drum all while listening to the sounds that surrounded us. We laid down with our eyes closed most of the class and I really was so relaxed. It was a really peaceful time without phones and I realized I need to take more time to listen to the sounds of nature. We were all so relaxed that we stayed in and ordered Mexican – we needed FOOD!!

On our last day, Meredith and I had a TRX class followed by a bands and gams class. Brenda and Nan went on a 3 hour hike. We were all done at the same time to head to the pool. The classes were again so much fun with the same teacher that we loved, John. We met some cute girls from Michigan that were also on a all girls trip 😉

Again with the yummy liquor drinks! I hope that I can find a place in Charlotte that makes them as good as they were at Civanna! We had a wonderful day out by the pool, talking, laughing, and just being together. There is truly nothing like girlfriends! I met Meredith, Brenda and Nan my freshman year of college. All 3 of them are from Charlotte but went to a different high school. I knew Meredith before but we really became close freshman year. Nan went to ECU (we went to NC STATE) but she came to visit and we all just knew Nan from Bren and Mer. So, 20+ years of friendship – and none of us live in the same place. It really just filled me up – I came home refreshed and my heart happy.

I can’t wait to do another trip with these girls next year – Civana was amazing and just what the doctor ordered!
